As part of the project “Water for the future: modern standards of restoration of water infrastructure”, representatives of Ukrainian water utilities and the Association “Ukrvodokanalekologia” visited Slovakia.
Specialists of Kyivvodokanal, Chernihivvodokanal, Zhytomyrvodokanal, Rivneoblvodokanal, Ternopilvodokanal, Lvivvodokanal, Umanvodokanal, Lutskvodokanal took part in the event; Sumy, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhya water canals. During the visit, there were tours of the facilities of water supply and sewerage in Košice, seminars and expert discussions.
The “Water for the Future” project, which will last from September 2023 to August 2024, involves the development of a comprehensive document “Standards for the design and construction of water management infrastructure” (water supply, drainage, wastewater treatment). European and Ukrainian experts take part in the development. This document is a sectoral plan for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, which is the basis for the restoration of the water supply infrastructure and the creation of conditions for the entry of world capital into complex development projects.
“We would like to note that as a result of cooperation with Slovak colleagues over the past 4 years, we have implemented important projects, such as the construction of equipment for the production of sodium hypochlorite for the purification of drinking water in the cities of Kherson and Rivne. The project to modernize the pumping station in the city of Uman is currently being implemented. The development of the document “Standards for the design and construction of water management infrastructure” will continue from January to June 2024. In parallel with this, we will promote and implement standards that are the basis for the restoration of water supply infrastructure, both at the local and national levels,”

The project is implemented thanks to a grant from the Slovak Agency for International Development (Slovak Aid). The project partner is the Slovak company ESOL sro. The project partner in Ukraine is the “Ukrvodokanalekologiya” Association.
