The implementation of the Water for the Future: Modern Standards for Water Infrastructure Rehabilitation project prompted the introduction of Standards and the creation of a Technical Standards Council under the Ukrainian Association of Water and Sewerage Enterprises Ukrvodokanalekologiya.
The first Standard of the Association was a document developed as a result of joint work of Ukrainian and Slovak experts within the framework of the project.
On the part of Ukraine, experts from the Association ‘Ukvrodokanalekologiya’ participated in the development of the Standards:

2. Oleksandr Kravchenko, Director of the Institute of Communal Infrastructure LLC, PhD
4. Oleksandr Ogloblya, Chief Researcher at V.M. Shymanovskyi Ukrinstalkon LLC, Chairman of the Technical Committee 306 «Engineering Networks and Structures», PhD
5. Oleksandr Shkin, Director of the Association ‘Ukrvodokanalekologiya’, PhD
Experts from Slovakia:

This document is the “Rules for the Development, Presentation and Execution of Standards for Ukrainian Centralised Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment Companies”
It defines:
- The structure of the enterprise standard,
- General provisions of the enterprise standard (legal norms, permits, design and construction, operation of facilities and equipment of centralised water supply and sewerage systems), etc.
The Standard is attached:
- Typical structural elements of an enterprise standard
List of technical standards;
- Example of Methodological requirements for reviewing design documentation for networks, facilities and water metering units of centralised water supply systems;
- Detailed general rules for the operation of centralised water supply and centralised wastewater disposal and sewerage systems;
- Existing standards of the East Slovak Water Company.
The creation of the Technical Council for Standardisation and the introduction of the Association’s Standards is a very important result of the project, which opens up opportunities for the implementation of new projects and helps to achieve the main goal – the development of a sectoral plan for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, which is the basis for the restoration of water supply infrastructure and the creation of conditions for the entry of global capital into complex development projects.
The Technical Council brings together industry experts in all key areas with practical experience and experience in developing state standards, technical regulations, recommendations, etc.
The Technical Council develops, reviews, approves and prepares for approval Association’s standards, guidelines and other documents.
At the Association’s initiative, the topics of the following projects have already been developed to modernise Ukraine’s water supply sector, including a number of standards and technical regulations, based on the requirements for harmonising Ukrainian legislation before entering the EU legal framework.
The discussion and approval of the documents took place during the Dnipro Water Forum 2024, organised by the Association of Water Utilities of Ukraine, which brought together about 200 participants from different regions of Ukraine on 14-16 August in Cherkasy.
